Born in 1994 in Bloemfontein, Charmone Botha has had a passion for the arts since childhood. Botha therefore decided to study a Visual Arts Degree through The University of South Africa (UNISA), in the department of Art History, Visual Arts and Musicology. Botha is currently in her final year of her tertiary studies. Botha grew up in Durban and this is where she draws her inspiration from, influencing her passion concerning the conservation of our beaches.
She has explored many mediums and to date her favourite is the art of sculpture and performance art. Her main focus in her art in 2017 was to use rubbish that she collected along the beaches of her hometown Ballito where she created unique pieces with it. In 2018 her focus shifted towards the ongoing horrific consequences of ocean acidification. Her installation aims to confront the viewer with ocean pollution and its consequences and aims to make people aware of their role that contributes to this situation.
