Charmoné Botha, Time is Running Out (2018). Installation. Perspex, sea salt, metal, sea water, water pump.
My installation includes an hourglass sculpture. Comprised of sealed steel and Perspex. Salt water is continuously pumped into the sculpture.
The steel armature contains a variety of pipes, referencing the detritus that is continuously pumped into our oceans. It is difficult to determine where the water originates and where it is expelled, directly referring to ocean acidification. An LED light at the sculpture’s base illuminates the water and, more importantly, alludes to illegal dumping tracked at night with UV light.
